1、country作“国家，国土”解时表示地理概念，侧重指疆土，即一个国家的整个区域，是可数名词。the country可作“全国人民”解。

2、country作“乡下，乡村”解时是单数名词，常与the连用。有时可用于名词前作定语。

3、country还可作“地区，土地”解，尤指带有某种地形或地势的地区或土地，常用于形容词之后。

country，nation和state有什么区别

1） country, 国家的常用词，侧重国土、疆域。

为什么说 country 侧重国土、疆域？因为 country 还可以指 地区、区域、乡下、乡村。

Australia's a big country. 

澳大利亚是一个幅员辽阔的国家。

They won't let him leave the country. 

他们不许他离开这个国家。

2） state, 国家的政治上的用词，即在谈论政治时用。也表示与政府组织相关。这一点，也可以在 state 的其它词义上得到证明。比如：

state, 也指某些国家的州、邦。州与邦的划分，是政治上的事，与政府组织有关。

state, 也有政府的含义，比如，British state 英国政府。

所以，提及 国家元首、国葬，与国家政府有关的“国家”时，用 state, 不用country, nation.

3） nation, 除了国家 的含义，还有民族、国民的含义。nation，强调其民族、社会及经济结构。
