1、compound ：分为并列复合句和主从或从属复合句，并列复合句是有并列连词：and、or、but连接；从属复合句由一个主句（Principal Clause）和一个或一个以上的从句（Subordinate Clause）构成。

2、complex ：至少要有一个从句，标志的连接词有 although, because, since 等等，或者由关系代词 who, which 等组成从句。

2、complex ：侧重于句与句之间主从关系。

句子Sentences，按照不同的维度，可以划分成各种类型。我们可以依据功能划分，可以依据情态划分，可以依据独立性划分，可以依据结构划分等等。

那么，如果以句子的大结构划分，句子主要有四种类型：简单句（Simple sentences）、并列复合句（Compound sentences）、复杂句（Complex sentences）及复合复杂句（Compound-complex sentences）。

因此，并列复合句是指两个或多个独立的句子，以连接词连接起来，共同组合成一个长句，用以表达复合性的关系。这些连接词包括for, and, nor, but, or, yet, and so, not only…but also等等。连接词的选择取决于独立句子之间的关系，独立句之间没有主从关系，地位是平等的。

表示并列关系：

They got there early, and they got really good seats.

他们到得很早，而且座位也很好。

表示转折关系：

I started on time, but I arrived late.

我准时出发，但到晚了。

表示因果关系：

She did not cheat on the test, for it was the wrong thing to do.

并列复合句的结构可以表示为：

复杂句

复杂句（也被叫做主从复合句），在英文中叫做Complex sentences

复杂句至少要有一个从属的子句，也就是从句。与复合句不同，复杂句中的主句与从句之间是主从的关系，因此一定会有主次之分，从句只能作为主句中的一个成分存在。

例如：

When I stepped out into the bright sunlight, from the darkness of the movie house, I had only two things on my mind.

当我走出电影院的黑暗，走进明亮的阳光时，我脑子里只有两件事。

What she had realized was that love was that moment when your heart was about to burst.
